Senior Architect

This is a wonderful opportunity to join one of the largest, most popular and most profitable retailers in the Middle East. Their portfolio is well respected and they dominate many sectors including Retail Food, Hypermarket, Convenience, Discount, Wholesale, Hospitality and Telecommunications. The core business dates back to the 1970’s when they became a leading hypermarket retailer across the Middle East, recognised for quality and an extensive range of SKU’s sourced from around the globe. They have since become a cash rich organisation looking to compete with global leaders by developing and investing heavily in core areas. The business is now entering its most exciting phase of development with the roll out of stores across the GCC countries. They require a Senior Architect to manage and oversee this project.
 
This is a high profile role which will offer the successful candidate a real chance to contribute to the shape and strategic development of the existing retail operation and help to ensure its continued success and future growth.
 
Principal accountabilities will include:
 
  • In co-ordination with other departments (Corporate Development, Corporate Merchandise, Operations), support the definition of stores standards with regard to equipment and fixtures (e.g. refrigeration, food cooking and processing, cashier's equipment) taking in to account the specific needs of each country.
  • Definition of standard budget and costs for new stores development.
  • A shared responsibility with Corporate Merchandise and Operations for supporting the development of new design concepts and prototypes.
  • Under supervision of the Director, ensure support to Corporate Development and Operations with regard to store design requests.
  • Negotiate and finalise design contracts.
  • Manage and direct the draughtsperson/s
  • Supervise and give final approval to Construction Drawings (e.g. spaces, equipment and fixtures layout, internal signage and décor) taking into account country specific needs and constraints, Construction Indicators, Equipment and Materials in order ensure effective and efficient execution.
  • Give final approval to the selection of finishing materials
 
Applications are therefore invited from individuals possessing:
 
  • A minimum of 5 years’ architecture experience in this field and a demonstrable track record of efficient design, delivery of KPI’s and budgetary discipline and cost control.
  • Be experienced in Business Development with preferred knowledge of the Middle East.
  • Be approachable, work well under pressure, have good attention to detail, be logical, co-operative and organized. 
  • Be prepared to travel regularly throughout the Middle East & North Africa
  • Have strong ability to manage resources, as well as build strong professional relationships
  • Have fluency in written and spoken English. Arabic would be an advantage
  • A very proactive, out-going, engaging personality with experience of contributing and communicating at a senior management level across a range of issues to do with design and execution.
